Zadar

The city of Zadar in Croatia is an important regional centre, with a number of historical buildings and interesting Museums. It is an excellent charter location with many things to see from Neolithic times.

The Romans originally built a town called Jader. The present Old Town is almost identical in layout. The Ruins of the old Roman Forum are still visible near St Donat's Church and Cathedral.

It was later purchased by Venice in 1409 and heavily fortified against the growing threat from the Turkish Empire. Later occupied by Austria, France and Germany.

The town has several interesting Museums and Galleries, including the Archaeological Museum, the National Museum, the Art Gallery and the Nautical Museum. It is also an excellent place to explore the surrounding countryside and the Plitvice National Park or the Ancient town of Nin.
